Trust Your Calling: Why What Feels Unclear Now May Make Perfect Sense Later

There are moments in life when the next step doesn’t line up neatly with logic. It doesn’t fit your résumé. It doesn’t match your current season. And it certainly doesn’t feel comfortable.

That’s usually the moment people talk themselves out of what they already know.

Your inner voice doesn’t shout. It nudges. It taps. It keeps returning to the same idea, the same opportunity, the same quiet “what if.” And the reason it can feel unsettling is simple: you’re evaluating a future version of yourself using today’s context.

That will never work.

Comfort Zones Feel Right — Until They Start Shrinking You

At a certain point in life, staying where you are can feel like the safest, most reasonable option. You know the terrain. You’ve built competence. You’ve earned credibility. Walking away from that—even temporarily—can feel reckless.

But here’s the hard truth: comfort is not the same thing as alignment.

When an opportunity keeps calling you, and the only thing standing in the way is fear dressed up as logic, that’s worth paying attention to. Fear will always argue for staying put. Your inner voice argues for becoming who you’re meant to be.

A Calling That Didn’t Make Sense—Until It Did

I once felt a strong inner pull to go on a medical mission trip to Guatemala.

On paper, it didn’t add up.

It was a medical mission, and I wasn’t a clinician. There was a language barrier. I had no clear idea what my role would be. Everything about it said, You’re not qualified for this.

But something deeper said, Go anyway.

When I arrived, everything clicked.

My background in healthcare—paired with a translator—placed me in one of the most critical roles on the trip: intake for the medical clinic. I was the first point of contact for people seeking care. I helped assess needs, organize flow, and ensure clinicians could do their work effectively.

What felt mismatched at home was suddenly a perfect fit.

That trip expanded my worldview, deepened my understanding of healthcare and immigration realities, and reminded me that purpose often shows up after obedience—not before.

It was life-giving. For me. And for the people we served.

Your Calling Reveals Itself in Motion

Here’s what most people get wrong: they wait for clarity before they move.

Clarity usually comes because you moved.

Your inner calling isn’t asking you to have all the answers. It’s asking you to trust that your gifts, experiences, and instincts will make sense in the environment they were designed for—even if that environment isn’t visible yet.

When you stretch beyond your current paradigm, you don’t lose yourself.

You uncover yourself.

Listen to the Voice That Knows

Your fears will list all the reasons not to go.

Your inner voice already knows why you should.

That voice is connected to your deepest gifts. It understands what brings you alive. It recognizes alignment long before your mind can justify it.

If something keeps calling you—quietly, persistently, faithfully—don’t dismiss it just because it doesn’t make sense yet.

It may make perfect sense to the future version of you who’s already living in alignment with their purpose.

And that version of you?

They’re waiting on your courage.
